Basement Plumbing

Before you put a fence up around your property, if you live in a residential area that has a home association, you should make sure one is allowed. Additionally, you will need to check with your local City Hall to ensure you have taken care of any required permits. Once everything is set, you will enjoy the benefits that come along with having a fence. In addition to privacy, a fence offers security for both people and pets, and can add a nice decorative touch to your home.

The first thing you need to do is plan the type of fence you want based on its purpose. Remember that when it comes to fences, there are many different styles, each offering something unique. You might start by driving through various neighborhoods to look at the types of fences other people have chosen. Magazines are also an excellent resource for ideas as well as visiting a fence company. Remember, fences come in all different styles such as picket, ranch, chain-link, wood privacy, and so on.

If you plan to build the fence yourself, you will need to contact your local utility companies to make sure you know where buried pipes and cables are located so you are not injured. Using a bright colored spray paint, you want to mark the locations with an X. Additionally, make sure you know exactly where your property line is so a war is not started with the neighbors.

To layout your fence, follow what is known as the 3-4-5 Method, which will help you calculate the right angle for the fence:

* Stake where the fence will go

* Run a strong from stake to stake

* Measure four-feet out from the string and then mark it with colored spray paint

* Mark a point on the house that is three free away from the stake

* Use a tape measure diagonally between the three-foot mark at the house and the four-foot mark on the string. You then want to move the sting until the distance between those two marks measures a perfect five feet.

* Tie the string down, which is now exactly perpendicular to the house

* Mark the position of where the first post will go and then measure a line to mark the remaining posts along the section of the fence

* You want the string to be on the outside of the posts edge. Once you reach the center, you want to measure the string again and mark the locations with a stake.

* If your fence will be going downhill, you can have the top of the sections follow the slope of the hill or simply keep the fence sections level, stepping the fence down at each post.

To dig the posts, you have two options. You can use a clamshell digger, which is definitely hard labor or rent a power auger that will make the job much easier. To do this, you will need at least two people but remember that while a power auger will make the job easier, digging fence posts is still hard work. Therefore, you might consider hiring someone for this portion of the project.

The best posts to use are cedar, redwood, or anything that is treated against rot and decay. When setting the posts, you will need a six-inch layer of gravel at the bottom of each posthole. Additionally, you want to add concrete in the holes once you have set the post. The edge of the posts will be lined up with the string to ensure they are straight. The posts will then need to be braced until the concrete set.

Once your fence is up, your property value will increase and your home will look wonderful. Just remember to choose the style of fence that will enhance the architecture of the home.
