6 Great Home Repair Video Sites

If you own your home, you know there’s always something that needs to be done. And, many of us like to do things ourselves, even when the task is something we haven’t tackled before. And, it’s easier than ever to handle those home repair jobs because of the video tutorials available right on the web. You can search on the job that needs done and get step by step instructions on your computer. Pause them or watch over and over until you’re sure you can get it right. Here are some of the best websites for home repair video tutorials.

1. HGTV – Our favorite source for do it yourself television is also a great source for “how to” tutorials. You’ll find instruction on everything from installing door molding to pruning roses by going to the home improvement category on their site. Once you’re there, select “how to videos”. You can also find tutorials in other areas of the site. For example, under the “bathrooms” section of the site, you’ll find videos with bathroom tutorials.

2. DIY – Another great television network has a great website that’s full of instruction videos. After you go to the site’s main page, click on “video library” for a list of videos that are available. You can learn to build a doghouse, install laminate flooring or install a laminate countertop.

3. This Old House – These guys have been remodeling and fixing old houses for years. Their site offers plenty of advice on updating older homes as well as basic home maintenance videos. This site has less information on decorating than some of the other sites, but offers a lot of information on home repair and remodeling.

4. Total Vid – This site is dedicated to videos about just about everything. Their home improvement section is filled with videos on every home project imaginable. The videos are more detailed than many of the other sites, and they offer more videos on more complex home repairs. After a free trial, however, you will have to pay for the content you download.

5. TLC – The Learning Channel also offers great home improvement television, through shows like Trading Spaces, Flip That House and Real Estate 101. Their website is home to do it yourself videos, often taken from projects seen on the shows.

6. MonkeySee – This site is dedicated to offering videos showing how professionals handle projects. Their home and garden section has a wide range of videos on home improvement projects. You can learn how to build a closet, install drywall or put in a dimmer switch, among other projects. This site has one of the largest libraries of do it yourself projects, and the videos are all free.

Home improvement projects can sometimes seem overwhelming. But, with a little instruction and a little patience, we can all tackle new home improvement projects and get a great education along the way. Doing it yourself often saves time over having to wait for a professional and almost always saves money, too. And, when you’re a homeowner, you know that saving money on one project just allows you to tackle another one!
